Please note that this study is now closed. Nonetheless, we will leave the site running for historical purposes, and will leave a link to the study results when they become published.
To all those youth and families that participated in the study, and who made a difference in helping us learn more about the treatment of depression, we sincerely thank you!
Are you having problems with depression?
The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario is offering a
treatment study for adolescents with major depression.
If you are between 13-18 years of age and have the following
symptoms (which are a change from your normal self), you might
be eligible for our study:
- Depressed or irritable mood most of the day, nearly every
day
- Loss of interest or pleasure in life or activities
- Loss of appetite or weight, nearly every day
- Troubles sleeping, or increased need for sleep, nearly
every day
- Fatigue or loss of energy, nearly every day
- Troubles concentrating or thinking, nearly every day
Participants would NOT be eligible if they:
- Are having problems hearing voices, or seeing things that
others cannot see
- Are having significant problems with alcohol or street
drug use
- Are currently pregnant
- Have ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, or manic
depression
- Have been on the medication Citalopram (Celexa) in the
past
If you do meet some of the Eligibility Criteria above, you
might eligible to participate in a study
being conducted at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario
(CHEO) whose purpose is to explore the safety, effectiveness,
and length of treatment of an antidepressant treatment. Eligibility
would be determined following a meeting and assessment by
a trained professional, in supervision with a CHEO staff psychiatrist.
Adolescents who are found eligible would then qualify for
the study and receive treatment for their depression.
