Enhanced Medical Care for Youth Experiencing Chronic Pain

The goal of this project is to change the way we do things so that children who come to our pain clinic can lead active, healthy lives. Our pain clinic therapists find that children who are active while they wait for therapy are able to do more, and are better able to actively participate in, and benefit from therapy. We think that having children work with a physical activity counsellor will help them to maintain or increase their physical activity while they are waiting for intensive therapy. Being more active will enable them to participate in more activities with family and friends, resulting in a higher quality of life. We want to see if working with the physical activity counsellor will make it easier for children to develop a personal activity plan and the skills and motivation to maintain or increase their physical activity. We also want to find out whether the counselling will decrease their fear of pain with physical activity.
