The objective of “Putting Physical Literacy within REACH” is to enhance sport and recreation sector capacity to screen children for physical literacy deficits. Physical literacy (PL) is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life (International Physical Literacy Association, May 2014). “REACH” refers to PL supportive sectors where leaders often do not have specialist physical activity training: Recreation (municipal or private recreation, camps), Education (school-based), Allied health (fitness, health promotion), Coaching (organized sport), and Healthcare (doctors, nurses, therapists). The ability to accurately identify PL deficits among children participating in their programmes will enable REACH leaders, teachers and coaches to better support the development of age-appropriate PL and enhance the participation of all children.
