Vitamin D - Critical Care: current research

Rapid Normalization of vitamin D in critically ill children: A phase II dose evaluation randomized controlled trial (VITdAL-PICU pilot)

This pilot study will determine whether an innovative vitamin D dosing protocol, involving weight-based enteral loading therapy, can rapidly and safely normalize vitamin D levels in critically ill children. Eligible patients will be approached and asked to participate by donating a sample of blood during blood work done as part of clinical care or through existing lines. Research Assistants will then run the sample and enroll only those patients who are Vitamin D deficient.

Recruitment for this study was completed in November 2017. Patients were enrolled from two hospitals in Canada ( CHEO, London Health Sciences Centre) and from hospitals in Chile and Austria. For more information, please contact Katie O'Hearn, Study Coordinator
