CHEO Research Institute Senior Scientist Mark Tremblay Receives Victor Marchessault Advocacy Award from Canadian Paediatric Society

OTTAWA, May 30, 2018 – At the opening of its annual conference, the Canadian Paediatric Society named Mark Tremblay as its 2018 of the Victor Marchessault Advocacy Award. Dr. Tremblay, Director of the CHEO RI’s Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research program (HALO), is being recognized for his leadership in the promotion of healthy active living for children and youth. The award honours individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to Canada’s children and youth at the local, provincial, or national level.

Tremblay has spent the last 10 years leading the development of physical activity guidelines for children including the first ever 24-hour movement guidelines integrating physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep. In 2005, he founded Canada’s Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, which has since been replicated by multiple countries. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Chair of the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance, Chair of the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines Committee, and Founder of the Sedentary Behaviour Research Network.
