Retention of Study Records
All research records pertaining to studies that fall under Health Canada Division 5 regulations must be retained for a minimum of 25 years after closure. All other studies should retain records for a minimum of 7 years after the study closure, unless otherwise approved by the REB. The public hospital's act requires that health records be retained for a minimum of 10 years past the child’s 18th birthday. For the most part, this requirement would not affect study records that would be retained separately from the health record.
