Current Research:
The philosophy of Dr. Mack’s team is to rapidly translate research findings into effective care using a multi-faceted, integrative approach. Studies can start through the CHEO IBD Centre, such as those done recently on diagnostics in pediatric IBD. Current interdivisional collaborations include examining bone health, biopsychosocial functioning and intestinal imaging. A recent interdepartmental effort with University of Ottawa researchers will provide understanding of the intestinal microbiome in gut inflammation. Multi-center initiatives at the national and international levels are underway to understand why IBD is increasing in children; mechanisms of inflammation; predicting outcome; developing best practices; and understanding of the natural history of pediatric IBD.

Biography:

Dr. Mack completed his pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. After a decade at the University of Nebraska Medical Centre he returned to Canada to expand the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology at CHEO. Currently, Dr Mack is the Chief of the Division and Director of the CHEO IBD Centre. There are a number of areas the Centre actively pursues including ensuring excellence in clinical care, providing education and expanding research in various domains. Dr. Mack has served as the Canadian Councillor for the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
