At the CHEO RI we are committed to producing the highest quality research to benefit children everywhere. Integrity in research is critical, and we are actively engaged in fostering a culture of research integrity as our Research Institute continues to flourish.

Who we are
The Relationship Management Committee (RMC) is established under the authority of the Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director of the CHEO Research Institute (CEO) who is the Integrity Officer for the CHEO Research Institute. The RMC Committee is formed for the purposes of assessing conflict of interest disclosures, determining whether conflicts can be managed and, where possible, developing plans for managing relationships. The Committee also makes recommendations on the education and communication of integrity matters to staff and leaders. In the interest of maintaining the highest ethical standard and promoting accountability and transparency, the Committee is established to ensure that all integrity issues are dealt with in a fair, consistent and practical way

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS
The Committee’s principal functions are to:

• oversee the implementation of the recommendations contained in the CHEO RI Conflict of Interest Policy and Procedures;
• approve procedures for resolving conflicts of interest to ensure fair and consistent treatment of disclosures;
• review non-standard disclosures to determine whether and how such conflicts may be managed;
• establish standardized management plans for conflicts of interest that have been disclosed and assessed;
• oversee the monitoring of management plans;
• oversee the implementation of relationship management education and awareness;
• provide guidance to the research community in the area of relationship management; and
• report annually to the Senior Management Committee of the CHEO RI on disclosures and general trends and themes relevant to relationship management.

Policies
The CHEO Research Institute is aligned with the Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research, which outlines the policies and requirements related to the grant application and management process, performing research, and disseminating results, as well as the processes that institutions must follow in the event of an allegation of a breach of one of the Tri-Councils’ policies.

The following policies are particularly relevant to research integrity at CHEO.
  • Ethical Conduct of Research Policy
  • Conflict of Interest: Policy
  • Conflict of Interest Procedure
